My original e-mail is below with responses in bold.

At this point I am trying to make a connection using the same workstation
as the client and server. In your article you state that the SQL* NET
version needs to be installed on the client. So if I'm using the same
workstation to make a connection at this point I already have it installed
????

SQL*Net is an Oracle product that is not used bt SQL-Server. Your problem will be because SQL*Net is not installed on your workstation.

I'm attempting to create my connection through obdc32 administrator.
I include all necesaary information yet when I verify connection it does
not work.

Also, should I edit the tnsnames.ora file, i.e. if the example you have
shown should I be placing my database name where you have MyDbName in my file. I was going to attempt this and there was a comment in that file that states not to modify the file,,,, being a novice I didn't risk it.

Yes, you will need to edit the tnsnames.ora file. The file I included as an example has the warning for our purposes. You definitely need to customize with the IP address info, domain, db name, etc.

Finally, in what directory on other client machines do I place the SQLNet?
In the windows systems directory?

The Oracle Product for Windows/Win95/Win NT CD will install the needed products in a directory called OraWin95 (for Win95) or OraWin (for Win 3.x). You need to do the Oracle install on each machine, just copying the files may cause problems.
