Don't know if anyone else has mentioned it, but at least for test purposes, make sure antivirus is disabled on all machines - not just the server and workstation that's exhibiting the problem.

If that doesn't help:

- check the problem system for ad/spyware
- is there anything different about the problem workstation?
- any possibility of a bad network card or cable?
- any software running that hooks into the file system e.g. Symantec Norton GoBack?

- you could try disabling opportunistic locking on both "server" and the problem workstation:
