In add to Hilmar - if the memo field contains a word document, it seems that that it could not be moved or inserted into a memo field unless Word automation was applied to the source document and copied or saved the doc to a txt so that a paste or filetostr() service could be used.

I looked at w word doc in a general field and it was totally grapical - are you able to edit the doc stored in your general fields. It seems to do what you want the source doc would be required and to stash it in a general field might require converting an object (the doc) to a string.
