I had forgotten to mention why the update was failing and Viv asked that. Briefly it was my key was not unique. I'm getting this value from another table (my counters table) and I'm NOT buffering it. This were the problem is coming from because I'm thinking this works like classic foxpro, but the second user is getting a value that is the value of the counters table from when the tally entry form is initialized, instead of the value from the disk.

This is not the way classic fox worked and the manuals all say that this setting is suppose to work that way.
