Hilmar,
We have done this in the past but it is too confusing. There are three problems. First, you have to use printer control codes to position text unless the document is laid out in strickly 6lpi or 8lpi. This makes creating the document very difficult. Second, different printers use different codes and even the same printer model may employ different codes. For example, the OKI 320 Turbo, which most of our users have, comes in 3 different models- IBM, Epson, and Standard. Each has its own set of codes. To make matters worse, OKI in its wisdom, chose not to place any external mark differentiating the models. This makes it difficult for a non technical person to set up a printer. Third, on some computers there are BIOS setting that have to be changed to be able to print directly to the printer. All of this creates a support nightmare. We want to go to all Windows printing. Now we are finding that the nightmares here may be worse. Do you suppose Linux users have these problems?
A problem is a problem only as long as it has a possible solution. Lacking that, it becomes a FACT!
