Sorry, the previous message dropped the "Long Text" in several places from the previous message as the phrase was in brackets.
Here's how the message should read:
Ok, here's some additional information regarding the problem with updating a sql table's column with a datatype of text using a remote view.
If “Long Text” appears in the enterprise manager select statement for that column, then my VFP update program gives an update conflict error message.
There must be some incompatibility problem with the kind of text that is stored in this sql text field. Once that descriptor “Long Text” appears, it's impossible to update that text field using vfp and a remote view with even a simple character replacement such as 'X'.
However, if I use the sql query analyzer to replace information in that text field, the replacement can be made without a problem. And if I update the column (using sql) with a simple character string, then “Long Text” no longer appears. After that my VFP update program runs fine.
Does anyone have insight as to why this is happening or if some sort of conversion needs to take place? Thanks in advance.
