Interesting. I knew there were large differences between German dialects, but I wasn't aware that the same situation occured in the Kingdom of the Netherlands. My father was Dutch, and my mother German; at home, we spoke more German than Dutch. We spoke "Hochdeutsch", and I have trouble understanding even the dialect of Svabonia (Schwabenland), where I was born.

So we use different words for certain things but as a whole it is different enough so that most Dutch people from 'Holland' can't understand it, but people from other countries near Limburg can.
