Thanks for the input. I AM using the public variable to hold an object reference. It seemed to me that program performance picked up just a bit when I store certain references to other forms, and other forms controls globally rather than passing them or especially having VFP look them up every time they are used. I can't see where I'm redefining or re-initializing the object reference, but since it isn't working there must be a problem somewhere!!!
