>There's something about VFP that has the .NET folks, and their marketing people in particular, running scared.
I have an opinion: VFP will work inside Linux. A .NET layer is not required for Linux. Linux is growing a market. Low cost. Robust. Doesn't need armies of .NET/ASP coders.
Linux is .NETs biggest competitor - not VFP.
That case study - I say redo it -
without VFP - [then] came back in three or four years and 10 or so million bucks from now - and tell us if it's working [yet] and give us testimonials from the users. It [almost] seemed someone was really trying [hard] to understate the value VFP brought to that project:-). Let's see it work w/o VFP! I dare `em!:-)
For now - many of us are better than average VFP developers. Most of us have some UNIX/XENIX experience with xBase. And, the reports I've heard (as well as the rumors) seem to indicate that VFP inside linux is attractive. Even VFP inside X-Term seems to be offering possibilities. To those who cost is not a consideration (licenses and big infrastructure teams), .NET will remain. But linux is sure starting to look like an option that major players are considering. Maybe we should use our time tune up our UNIX skills - and [just] let the [blinded by the light] zealots waste their time with .NET:-)
