>That is the point Denis - you are not being forced to change tools. If you want to continue to use VFP - go for it. It is simply not MS's job - or anybody elses job for that matter- to market - or assist in marketing a tool so that you can feel better about your tool choice. I understand the issue clearly. The feeling is that if MS markets Fox - it will trigger demand and as a result - there will be more work. If you have concerns about finding work - then you need to make some changes - and not rely on MS to take some action that would have you believe there could be an upswing in Fox demand. Of course, MS would highly suggest .NET. If I were going to be in the game for the long term - I would be giving Java, Python, etc - serious consideration - in addition to .NET. I say .NET only becuase of numbers and the pervasiveness of the Windows OS.

The signal is clear. MS will make new versions for as long as they make money out of it. We (the community) are the only ones that can make those new versions coming by always upgrading. That's it that's all end of the story. Ken made it crystal clear.

I have no concerns about finding work. That's not a problem. The thing is that I have to know where I'm going. At least I know that there will be a VFP9. For now my toolbox is VFP. I'll have to add .Net in it. Not because I need to but because I have to prepare for it. Because not too long from now the toolbox will have a strong marketable .Net and a weak marketable VFP.

Java, Python, etc. Come on John the name of the game is going to be .Net. MS has what many others don't.

1) A lot of cash.
2) Tons of developers that don't cost much (from india and who knows where).
3) Their products are everywhere. This makes it a very comfortable position.

>I am sure this is tongue in cheek - but given Ken's post - I don't think there will be a next time. I bet the last think you expected to hear from Ken was the notion that you may be doing more harm than good to the commnity. I must profess - the public statement surprised me a bit too!!

Like ken mentioned. Those kinds of threads keep appearing from time to time. I'm not sure but I think he's never been as clear as he's been this time. So like you say there won't probably be a next time. At least no based on VFP marketing. Case closed <g>
