Jon, I had the same problem, and it's related to the date of your MSCOMM32.OCX. The one that came with VFP, file date 8/21/96, works. Yours is probably a later one, installed by your VB5. That's how MINE got overwritten, anyway. I found the older version on my laptop, copied over the newer version and everything worked immediately (after I re-booted). No changes in the registry were needed.
