It had a size check on the file using FSIZE() but I didn't include that because I didn't know what the string size limit is in VFP 5. I also think that if you are using a file that is bigger than 1 Meg you probably shouldn't convert it to a string if FoxPro lets you or not, but that's just my personal opinion.

The point is moot - even if FileToStr() simulator function works (or if we just append to memo), I don't really remember if StrConv() function was there in VFP5. And that one would be far harder to simulate.
