>Ken Levy said this at the Devcon - at the Scottsdale Princess. I have never cornered Ken on the particulars of this. I think I will now<g>. It seems strange that other products like VB are not as *compliant* - yet the ActiveX controls all work. Go figure...

John,

The thing that Ken said was not "compliant" but "demanding the standard be followed". VFP is less forgiving of variations from the published standard and VB is more forgiving. Athoung I don't know it first hand, I've been told this is also true of VC++'s OLEContainer and that certain controls that work with VB don't work with the VC++ OLE Container.

The real problem here is that the market for VB is so large that many ActiveX control suppliers never test their stuff with anything but VB. If it works with VB then ship it. Unfortunately VB does not have strict requirements to keep with the published standard and it allows a large leeway for the ActiveX developers.

These controls would have problems in VB if it ever became more strict in its enforcement of the standard.
