Yes - I have: 15 - 20% of the first invoice (usually the billings for a requirements analysis, specifications, and delivery/billings schedule)
But, if you want to be really fair - do it like Robert Half - Bill 80 to 125 /Hr, keep 35$/ Hr for yourself and give the rest (45 to 90$/Hr) to your friend:-).
