>You say VFP is a "niche market player". What is the market? And assuming a market can be identified, is it niche?

VFP is niche, imo, because over the years MS have decided to focus on other dev tools and platforms and targets. Fine, but that still leaves a relatively large core of VFP developers. The niche market, imo, would be small to medium size business' i.e. 1 to, say, 500 users, requiring database systems but not necessarily enterprise size type features.

>And as far as "mature technology" is concerned, that is just a eupemism/positive spin for something else. You know...Cobol is a mature technology as well...

Not so. Mature technology is simply that is been around for a while, as opposed to some newer dev tools. Its just a simple statement of fact.

>>Have you actually read the above types of statements here on the UT? I cannot remember reading any categorical statements like that.

>One thing I have never been accused of is not paying attention to the details. Yes - I have read the posts...

Well, in the years of reading posts here I have not seen users posting categorical statements that VFP is the be all and end all and nothing else is any good and so forth.

>>I am not questioning the "how" you derived your foresight but rather stating a "so what".

>Really? You did ask how in 1993, it could be so clearly seen. That says to me that you are indeed questioning how I derived that opinion.

No, I did not ask this question. Re-read my post. As I said the "how" does'nt interest me. And, to nit-pick, the 10 year old "demise" forecast has still not come true because new versions of VFP are still being produced and developers are still developing new applications with it and we are looking forward to yet another version of VFP next year!

>>10 years have passed and VFP is still being used by thousands of developers around the world to produce quality applications and to earn a living. VFP8 was released this year and VFP9 announced for next. Gee, 10 years is a long time.

>So....what is your point..Indeed, in the tech world - 10 years is several lifetimes...

My answer above.

>>Its just another feel good factor I guess :) I'm placated.

>Exactly my point Jos...It is a "feel good" thing - and that is about as far as it goes...

"I feel good..."

Happy New Year!
