Agree with all you wrote.
I use Walmart to express how the system will collapse on itself...
Walmart forces manufacturing offshore (my brother-in-law's company was a recent victim) dis-employing people (who typically get another job at much lower pay, if they're lucky) who then have to shop at Walmart because prices are lower there.
There will come a day when there are no more jobs for the dis-employed, so even Walmart will not get new (or even return of long-term) customers simply because they have no money to spend in a place like that (second-hand shops and repair shops may boom).
Without growth, Walmart's share price, thus the company itself, collapses.

Sadly, Walmart will be the last indicator and it may well be too late for the "new balance" by then. Especially since many companies are following the Walmart example, for things way beyond dirty old manufacturing. This accelerates the Walmart success story but also accelerates its demise.

One thing about the original article... it is oft-repeated that "a rising tide lifts all boats" as a justification for "free trade", inferring that we ALL benefit when the poor of other nations get gainful work. Sounds reasonable, but the article does a fine job of DISPROVING this marketing slogan. But I have confidence that good marketing will be able to prove that a wage cut of 50% is a good thing!

cheers and Happy New Year Dragan
