I have this proposal to develop an app which has applications on the retail shops constantly working on the data from an internet server.

Local LAN can be accessed with UNCs like \\server_machine_name\shared_folder_name\database.dbc

What would differ for an always-on internet served data?

How to make the user gather the details for such an Internet UNC path? I will be working off-shore for this app, so the users will be very much on his own to an extent.

Any suggestions other than this idea of mine.

The user has a future view of this app as a internet based application and currently I am using CodeBook as the framework, will it be scalable for such a future requirement?

Please advise.
