A simple one I guess should do. During one assignment I was located in one of the provinces of David, Panama. I was there for 6 months working with locals. The government paid my expenses the entire time. I basically spent time with the locals in bars, cockfights, restaurants, dances, in their homes, etc asking questions, making friends, etc. After I was no longer in the military, the government wanted to charge me for some questionable (in their opinion) costs that I incurred. The government finance department sent me notices asking for justification for the costs (this is years later) or they would garnish my current wages to cover the costs that were in question. I instigated an investigation (everyones right) and the government dropped the issue entirely and wrote off the charges since the period and assignment were considered 'sensitive government information.' In that instance it worked in my favor (however, I could have justified the costs if they would have let me) :o)
