The reason that there are these two functions is for compatibility with dBase. Prior to VFP (in other words FPW 2.x), there was only PARAMETERS(). PCOUNT() was added for compatibility. I still tend to use PARAMETERS(), mostly because I have to work in both FPW and VFP. If you need to parameter count, the only thing you have to worry about is making sure that the function is evaluated prior to any other function call.
