>>>As far as SP being the best option - when compared to RV's - they are.

OK...that certainly does not negate my statement above...

This isn't a book or article where you can invent scenarios to support a position; this is the real world.

Gee...thanks for pointing that out. Not sure what your point is, but thanks anyway...

Leaping to a new script does not explain why you lectured her big-time about what a silly-billy she was to use SPT rather than SP.
>

The ONLY thing I took issue was the supposed requirement of HIPAA that it was a per se rule that people outside a company could not have access to data. The justification for rejecting SP's and going with embedded SQL was not particularly convincing.

Well, nobody is pitting RV over SP - there's that imaginary debate again. What IS being said is that a sophisticated developer considers the circumstances before making a decision; you seem to advocate making a decision first, then requiring customers, developers and everybody else to fit in or they are inferior.
>

A sophisticated developer is also efficient - and that means not engaging in the same analysis in a redundant manner. Remember JR - this is the real world.

RV's - regardless of the implementation - have too many issues. i.e., using a case by case analytical approach is not going to - all of a sudden - put RV's in the pantheon of best practices...

You know JR, it seems to me that you constantly go out of your way to justify to me - your approach and use of RV's. You do realize that OTOH, I could not care less whether you come around to my way of thinking. Whether you use RV's or not - I don't care. You do realize that when I responded to this thread - you were not the recipient. And for the record, Rod suggested SP's as well. I simply picked up on that point. You OTOH, have taken yet another opportunity to hammer home again why RV's/client-side rendered SQL gets knocked. And - you only seem to do it to me.

Whatever..I don't have a vested interest in which you come out on the matter. That said, when somebody posts a general question - calling for an opinion, I will render it if I so choose. And, if you want to comment on my opinion, you certainly can - but you are beating a dead horse.

No, I advocate flexibility and open-minded, intelligent assessment of circumstances leading to whatever decisions make sense in the circumstances.
>

I am sure you do....

>
You seem to say that circumstances only matter if they support decisions you made well in advance and which are not subject to discussion or review.
>

Perhaps you should look in the mirror...
