Title:
Ok, 'blue screen of death'? supposed to be 'nice'!?
hello everybody.
before i begin:
- p4, 1.6 GHz, 256 Mb, 350MB virtual memory, xp sp1, vfp6 sp5
- no clue about xml (other then what i'll describe below)
simple straight foreward test:
convert/export a table to an xml file
the test parameters:
- West Wind XML Converter (wwXML)
- a customer table
-> 2.5 mb dbf
-> 274 kb cdx
-> 16 kb fpt
-> records: 4144
-> fields: 71
-> length: 622
ok here it goes:
westwinds converter works great and creates an xml file without any errors. now here is the first bommer: the xml file is 7.2 mb big!
now isn't one of the ideas behind the whole xml thing to easear and faster transfer data through the i-net? how come its bigger then the original table? just transfer the table - would be faster?!
next step:
i double click on the new xml file and it opens in the IE. display looks ok; all the structures and data is there.
but then my xp box pops up a message: "running out of virtual memory"
WHAT?
never had any memory problem, etc. with my box before. OK, so the box becomes very slow - well i am testing - that's ok. i scroll through the document and click a few nodes - xp crashes -> the blue screen of death.
WHOW!
now can someone explain that to me please! what good is xml if already on a half way decent computer i get memory problems, etc. did i do something wrong. am i missunderstanding the use of xml? i have no clue!
