How did it make you a better developer? I understand that in the prcess of studying, you likely learned something about the tool you did not know before. BUT - that by itself does not make one a better developer. There are lots of people (especially a few devcon speakers) who have a good academic understanding (book smarts) of the product. I would not necessarily call these people good developers. OTOH, a developer becomes good through two forces coming together. The first is a good understanding of the product. The second is a good deal of practical experience building (developing - hence the name developer) applications.
So while studying for (not taking) the exam may be a component in the evolutionary process of a developer - it is only 1 piece. All taking and passing the exam indicates is the ability to recite and regurgitate facts.
I would be very interested to know and understand how taking the exam helped to make you a better developer. I understand that is your opinion. I am not saying your opinion is invalid. Rather, I am trying to get an understanding on how your opinion is based.
