Of course, you could write your own compression program in VFP, and perhaps somebody has done so already. But if you do this yourself, it will be a lot of work (you will have to do some research; the subject is not exactly easy), and whether you do it yourself, or somebody else already did it, in VFP, it will still be slow.
So I would suggest you search for some free or cheap third-party compression tool.
