The history of languages is interesting. At one time I worked for a very well-known Army General while he was Commanding Officer of I Corps, Fort Lewis, WA. He had a habit of using the word 'pro-active.' He used it quite frequently and without the hyphen also. It was not in the dictionary at that time but it caught on quick in military circles especially in reviews. He made it a point to show me when it was added to the dictionary. The use of English in different countries is quite interesting as well. If your bonnet's up and your boot's open in America it would mean something entirely different than in England. It wasn't that long ago that synergy was added to the dictionary. And afterall, wasn't it L. Peter Deutsch that wrote, 'To iterate is human, to recurse divine.'

>>According to my dictionary, the word instantiate, which you also have been using for years, is also a word which was 'constructed' to fill a need in computer programming. How can you justify your use of this verb, and not recurse? The story behind the words recurse and instantiate is exactly the same, AFAIK.

>I disagree that it's the same situation. "Instantiate" was created to fill a new need. "Recurse" was created through the same process that gives us "administrate," people not knowing the right word to use.
