Thanks for your help, I did have the tables open, in use and fields from them displayed in various forms when I attempted to bring forward the report form editor. No fields showed in the 'Fields' list. I have coded up ( in the past 20 minutes ) changes to my favorite forms, adding DE record with subsequent cursor records and voila, magic, the fields show up. So, from my observation, the FRX/FRT must have type 25 and 26 records to see fields in the 'Fields' list. My original first point was that the documentation was deficient by documenting the 'From Table:' combo box on the Expression Builder, which was true in 2.x, but apparently not true in VFP when the report designer is active -- the combo box shows if you simply reference the Expression Builder, even shows free tables that are open. The second point was how to see values in the 'Fields' list box, which from my stochastic examination appears to require DE records in the FRX/FRT pair. >Thanks again.
