Whay is this so Fricken difficult??

When I copy a directory from somewhere on my LAN to my 2003 server. It sets it to Read Only. Then I unmark it, and close the dialog. Open the dialog again and it is read only again. It doesn't matter if I am Admin or a user or anything in between. Then, you can't delete it. I have been through every security dialog I can find and it makes no difference. If I can't create/modify/delete files from another machine on the LAN without going through miles of red tape the OS is useless.
