They gave us the ability to write them. I am not saying things are perfect - they are not - no tool is. Nonetheless, it is not the difficult task some make it out to be.

.NET has no more layers of abstraction in it than Fox. If you want to start working with the base classes, you can. If you want to create your own class libraries, you can. Things are definitely implemented differently - but that is a different issue than abstraction.
