John,
I've followed this thread over the last 2 days, and while the content has changed quite a bit, I wanted to respond to your post to JVP.
You asked for some 'reassurance'...I'll see that and raise you some verification.
I work in the same building with JVP, and can 'verify' 1, 2, and 3. He's about to take the bar exam, and is working full time for a large customer using Oracle. He's been involved in the client's strategic direction for months. The people in our building, people who work with him daily and who look beyond a mindset of 'hijacking discussions'...all have a very high opinion of his knowledge and experience.
He's also given me some advice on .NET, and gave me some wise advice on a professional dilemma, advice that demonstrated a strong understanding of the law and business. I've benefited greatly from John, and can truly say he has one of the keener minds I've ever met.
You say that things don't 'gel'...by what standard?
I haven't always agreed with John over the years, though as time has gone on I have come to see some of his observations where previously I disagreed. He often looks at things from different angles than most. Is his personality very different than mine, yours, or most of the folks here on the UT? Probably...but you know what...I admire the heck out of the guy. And I'd want him on my team any day of the week.
Enough reassurance?
Kevin
