Thanks for the info, I wasn't aware that REsponse.Write in the context of control rendering would actually write out directly into the stream. In my experience Response.Write() usually ends up writing at the top of the document.
If it works that's great, I'm just surprised. Usually the recommended way for this is to to add this to the Attributes collection to force it to render. A little less obvious but official. The way Response.Write() works is not guaranteed to stay that way inside of control code I guess.
