I am not alone in my dislike for crystal. In fact, almost EVERY message board or a simple Google search will show this. I'd say 90% of asp.net developers are turned off by crystal.
Specifically:
1. The GUI is a real pain to use
2. Very difficult to write expressions - you are stuck with their limited VB-like syntax
3. No "real" integration with .net like what Active Reports Provides
4. Licensing complicated and expensive
5. Installation extremely complicated and intensive
Active Reports, as you know, has none of these problems, and implementation is x-copy. Active Reports is almost like ( but even better ) than the VFP's report writer as far as how it is integrated into .NET. If I didn't know better, I'd think that Microsoft wrote the AR to be part of .NET.
Dave
ps- i don't work for AR, and did shell out the 1300 bucks to buy it, but my story is not alone. I've NEVER heard anyone say anything bad about the product except
1. Too expensive
2. Would like better integration of charting/graphs
