I migrated an app that was using MS SQL to MySQL that uses FoxPro front end for a lot of the data management.
MySQL in my opinion still has a ways to go to compete with MS SQL. But for the most part it will get the job done.
The only thing I really notice in FoxPro is that it takes FOREVER to open up a remote view in design mode. For some reason it just isn't as good at communicating structure and design schema.
Also I've had problems adding tables in views with MySQL is the backend. But in VFP8 you can easily go in and code the view by hand without any problems.
My recommendation is that unless you are on a serious shoestring budget you're much better off with MS SQL.
