Actually, I recommend the software solution (of course), because it's the simplest. When I signed up for Verizon as ISP (had no choice, anyway), they bundled MSN with the installation. And when it tried to install MSN on my disk, I just selected "I don't accept" on the EULA dialogue, and it didn't bother me anymore :).
