>What does a warm feeling have to do with anything???

Thinking out of the VFP box. That is what you argued.

>C/C++ and Delphi are good examples, even C# seems compelling.

>Wonderful..
>
>SQL server is an invaluable tool in my toolbox.

>I would love to see how you implement it. My guess is it is comparable to Robert Redford casting Jimmy Smits in the lead for the Milagro Beanfield War. What a waste of a good book...

You already know how I implement it as I´ve spend more than a few messages here on the UT explaining that SQL server is there to serve data and not to be an application server. You can conclude that I don´t load the server with SPs and agree with the approach of John Ryan. I use SPTs for things that are not easily accomplished with RVs.

Further there are FOR MY APPLICATIONS not enough reason to complicate things by using server side programming appart from a few exceptions.

>However you've got to use the wisely and at least don't listen to the hype sensitive guys who jump every new fancy tool on the market and try to drag as many developer into a swamp of failure.

>I didn't jump on Java if that is what you are implying. I for one do not jump to very "fancy" tool that lands on the market. Never have...never will. I vet out and assimilate technology quite throughly and do it quite well.

VB for database applications ??

>However, I WOULD NEVER ADOPT A DEVELOPMENT TOOL WITHOUT A DECENT LOCAL DATABASE ENGINE FOR DATABASE APPLICATIONS. So you tell me, what options do I have ???

>ADO .NET is a local data engine and a decent one. Trying to convince you of that is an EIF. You have plenty of options. Whether you are astute enough to understand/realize that is another issue.

I firmly disagree in ADO.net beeing complete enough to be a database engine. It is merely a outgrown memory OO data storage mechanism with some very basic ways of simulating a DML. It is a wrapper on top of OLE DB or ODBC. It has no API supporting SQL other than passing the SQL to a backend. As a result .NET is not a data centric platform.

>You OTOH are a guy telling lies about capabilities of tools you don't even have substantial experience in.

>Nonsense...

You already admitted you don´t have substancial experience in .NET, so at least this no nonsense

>You tried to talk everybody into VB and ADO two years ago. Poor souls. If you only see how disappointed those guys are now....

>WTF????? People that embraced VB and ADO as a way of extending their toolset 5 years ago are not among the crippled morons that count you as their leader...

Thanks you..

>You are the most dangerous guy here on the UT, because all you tell is based on nothing more than you imagination.

>I have a good list of accomplishments and an excellent track record. Any day of the week Mr. Meester you want to compare the track records - I'll be happy to do so.

I see no use in such excersize. You´ll try to compare records with the same logic up here. And there is really relation between the records and the background knowledge one has. I´ve had my large projects, I´ve seen large enterprises, ERP packages, Trade companies, Insurance companies, the government, the world wide operation orginasations like the WHO, medical businesses, but also the small companies like a garage, an orchid greenhouse and some other businesses. But you´re questioning my relevant knowledge as I do yours. Comparing tracks are not going to change that.

>Looking at the past of you VB evangelism there is no reason to doubt that you did not learn the lesson and continued your practices with the adoption of VB.NET. Surely you'll get some of those to .NET and let them drown..

>People that adopted VB as part of their toolset 5+ years ago, had an easier time understanding ADO and COM. Seems to me that FoxTalk thought it was relevant enough to publish several pieces by me on how to incorporate VB into VFP apps. How many articles and VB apps have you delivered. How many VB books have you written? I have 1 (with two editions) to my credit (along with Rod and Richard Campbell). I started using VB in 1993. My experience with VB allowed me to better understand .NET...

I deliberately have avoided publishing stuff despite I´ve been asked several times. I´m not a great writer in the english language and I simply don´t have the time to do that. Writing messages on the UT is all I can permit timewise. When the time comes I´m running out of work I´ll think of that. BTW there are some people here on the UT who wrote books asking me for permission to include some of my code into their books. Marcia Akins and CraigB beeing examples.

>People are better of listening to real knowledgable people like Rick Strahl or Cetin Basoz than listen to the crap you're spouting.

>You listed two people that people should listen to. And for the record, people should listen to you as well.

>When your resume approaches mine, give me a ring...

How does resumes say anything about decent skills. A bricklayer could say he builded a thousand houses. How does this compare to the architect who only did 10 ?

I´ve got a pretty extensive resume but I don´t see the relevance for this discussion. You´re trying to drag me somewhere to distract me from the topic.
