John,

You know as well as I do that this is a dynamic market, and at any one period in time, someone might be doing VFP work, or .NET work, or both (or maybe something else).

To look at the current situation and proclaim that since John has just 'one VFP role and only one client' that his advice is not justified...it really borders on cynicism. One full-time client and studying for a law-degree - quite impressive. John as done .NET work in the past, and this is obvious by first-hand discussions that I've had with him.

'Reductio ad absurdum'...the next time I get some tips from someone here on coding a SQL query, should I judge the value of his advice by how many clients he currently has? The next time I get an answer from someone over on the .NET forum, should I downplay it because the person is currently working in another tool?

I'm being facetious, but there are much more relevant qualifiers than the ones being discussed here, and it seems that there's a level of inconsistency regarding the interaction with JVP.

This is a good segue into my next point...I initially decided not to respond to your post back to me, becuase it was pretty obvious you were trying to downplay my responses. You asked how someone could be going for a law degree, give advice on technololgies and business strategies. I gave you a few first-hand examples to back that up...and you felt it was nothing more than a 'character reference'. While I'm tempted to give more specifics to back them up, I'm quite convinced there'd be equal or greater effort to downplay them.

I have recent first-hand experience with John. I view John as qualified to speak with authority on the aforementioned topics. I don't always agree with him, though I'm finding that my differences with him regarding VFP are more of margin than principle.
