Selim, maybe my answer has nothing to do with your question, but I do not care so much about the processor. I even like programming in old computers, as you have a great baseline on how performance will be in your final application. Actually I do a lot of development in an old 400 Mhz. AMD processor with 192 MB of RAM (don't laugh).

Try to buy the greatest monitor your money can buy (I consider 17 inches the minimun, being 19 inches more adecuate). A big monitor helps a lot when developing and you don't get an advantage over the final user (I limit development of forms to 800x600 resolution).
If I have to develop for a large dataset, the I reduce the size of the dataset proportionally so that testing don't consume that much time and I still know how long it will take for the end user. At this point you may ask why don't I use a more powerful computer and use the complete dataset? The anser is that there are a lot of operations and activex or COM components that are very slow on 3-4 year old computers, and you will only notice that on old hardware; by the time you take the application to the client for first real world testing sometimes it's too late to rewrite your code (or too expensive).

Besides, I spent a lot of time writing code and testing small portions code and interface (I never wait to have a big code of block or a complete form to test it, I go little by little), and for this purposes a "not so fast" computer is more that adecuate (actually I don't think I would go faster with 3 Ghz, although I would like to work with 1600x1200 resolution).

And if I can be of any help, I have been working with AMD processors for 5 years and have not had any problems with them.

HTH.

>Maybe this ain't the best place to ask this, but since there are so many "brains" and "knowledge" here I dear to ask.
