There will be a lot of debate about which is "better" or "worse". But the basics, as I understand them, are AMD Duron is comparable to Intel Celeron, AMD Athlon is comparable to Intel Pentium. Depending on which applications you use the benchmarks may or may not favor a certain processor. I prefer AMD Athlon processors, for my purposes they seem to do just as well as Intel Pentium processors without some of the added cost.
