Linux is an open market not yet dominated by MS vested "tool" and "framework" shops. We won't need to hear about .NET or C# in Linux/Open Source - they're not needed there.

And - there are OOP xBase prodcuts (like FlagShip) that will let us take advantage of the OOP xBase skills we acquired with VFP.

Good for Whil. Too bad MS went astray and attempted to make a Market (they should of remained a market follower - that's what MS does best) and ported VFP and the EULA to Linnux. I would not mind selling "special" MSDN subscriptions to prospects - providing that MS add the functionality to VFP - rather than forcing me to buy this or that tool from MS or other vendors.

Look at Nick's RowHighLight for grids. It's now (VFP-8) a GRID property. They should do the same with all these other .NET appliances (Like WC and .NET.ASP) and trundle (and embed) those functionalities wih VFP.

They used Nick's idea. Let them do the same with the other stuff. Quit holding back MS - we can all have some fun and make our rent at the same time!

>It was the source of the 'article' that prompted that reaction on my part. Whil obviously has a "good ear" for what's really going on and I take his counsel very seriously.
>I also observe that there has been virtually no contradiction of the position nor claims that 'other factors' (read what you may into that < s >) might have contributed to the position.

>My preference remains the "smaller shop" and I believe that such shops have cost issues that make them more likely candidates for a Linux-type environment than the larger enterprises, which is also what I read Whil as saying.
>And who can say, but if VFP can fly on Linux then maybe the .DBF format can be improved without compromise to VFP itself.

>All in all I think it is a positive development. Whil has obviously paid a price but it seems that he is continuing regardless.

I was a Microsoft Most Valuable Professional (MVP) from the mid 90's until last year, a Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) during the late 90's, and received the first Microsoft Visual FoxPro Lifetime Achievement Award in October of 2002. So why am I moving to Linux?
