I wanted to let you know (and others who helped with this problem) that the problem is solved. You and others helped me to show the customer that it was not really the application problem. And I thank you all for that very much.
The customer found that a bunch of their PCs with NT OS had the c:\temp folder set to systems attribute. This was due to some glitch to some "SMS Push" (that's how they refer to it) process they use to distribute applications or updates. Once the attribute is changed, all works well.
