He states that he offers demo versions of his software in a 9mb download that carries everything necessary. Surely his point is that in 2004 it would be comparatively difficult to match this efficiency using dotNET, which he'd like to use. He is correct that releases come frequently, so making sure customers have the one that matches the app is also an issue.
As this is a deployment rather than a development issue, why is it a bad idea to shed all those megabytes of stuff not needed in this case, and just ship the parts needed for this particular application?
