>If I run setup wizard with an OCX in the app directory, it gets installed and/or registered when doing an install on user machine. Also, when I run regsvr32.exe it registers an ocx already on a user machine. But I've noticed that there are various dates on the OCXs on different machines, some fairly old.

Bruce,
Yes, there are different versions of the OCXs. Some don't work as the documentation says. For example, the version of the Common Dialogs control that originally shipped with VFP 5.0, had some problems. For example, while it was documented that the open file dialog returned the index value of the files type list. It didn't. Later versions (I believe having a January, 1997 version date) did.
I believe that it will overwrite the old OCX.
