Hi Neil,
Thanks for correcting me. It has been a while when I was productive in C++ (8 years ago?). In fact I did not do much in Microsofts VC++, but used a VC++ version on Unix and Borland C++ (don't ask me about the differences). I do remember as a student when writing a mathimatical interpreter in C++ I did more or less use a simular approach in which I did not use overloading, but instead typechecking in a switch case statement. I was accused of not following the OO rules by doing that by my teacher (I forgot the exact reasoning though).
Nowerdays, only occasinally when I need C/C++ power I find the time to play in VC(++).
Walter,
