I just tried this using the code in the MM .NET Dev Guide topic "DataGrid In-Place Editing Walkthrough" and didn't experience this problem. When you press F5 to refresh the page, the code in your page re-executes. I recommend setting a break point in the page to see what's going on! You should also check to make sure you're checking IsPostBack where necessary.
