When I read all this back and forth on the future of VFP I'm reminded of the old adage against wrestling in the mud with pigs; "the pig likes it and you get muddy." For those of us diehards we have to admit the obvious - Fox is a great tool that is being squeezed out by MS. I really thought they would do it a lot earlier because they don't make money with it like they do if the developer goes the VB or Access route. Both of those paths lead straight to SQL -spelled (CAL$)
However, as much as I love the Fox (and have since foxbase) I can see the handwriting on the wall. At some point, MS is going to say enough and they will cease to produce the product. If that is true, then it would probably make sense to find another tool. I've done some dot net, some java, php and other stuff but it isn't nearly as much fun. I am going to go dot net because of the market and the proliferation, but I'm not smiling about it. I guess I'll always keep VFP around somewhere to do data work, but I see our days getting shorter - regretfully so.
