Something else cool happened on the Sydney tollways (well 2 of them at least) and is the reason for tollpasses to be implemented in the first place.

What happened was the New South Wales government made an election promise to scrap the tolls on these 2 roads and they one the election, but when they tried to buy out the toll operators they were refused because the toll operators realised they would have lost tons of money compared to how much they would get if they keep collecting the tolls for the next 25 years.

So what the governmet did was give people the ability to claim a refund from the government for all tolls payed (less the GST) - so each month the toll company debits $100 from my VISA card that is used to pay my tolls and then every three months they send me a printed invoice which I send to the government who then send me a check back for $280. So it is annoying sending the form every three months, but at least they kept their promise :)

Chris.
Have a nice day :)
