Thanks for the response Craig. Let's add another factor to this mix. With a little creative diagnosis I think I've determined that the culprit MIGHT be MS Office 2003, also installed on this machine. With Outlook 2003 out of the way VFP8 responds as expected. Add to that some other little 'odd' behaviors within OL2003 and the case seems stronger.
