if i understand you right, you'd like to generate an mouse-over effect on the pictures - correct me if i'm wrong.

i've always solved such problems by creating two pictures - one is the 'normal' pic and the other contains the desired changes (shadows,...). in the mouse-over event on the form i've changed the pictures.
