Hello fellow Tampa Bay FoxPro users,

You are invited to a get-acquainted gathering of Tampa-area FoxPro developers THIS THURSDAY EVENING, Feb. 12, beginning at 7pm. The evening will feature food, fun, and Fox -- including a special presentation and discussion led by Randy Pearson, author of the book, "WebRAD: Building Database Apps on the Web w/ VFP & Web Connection."

Read on for complete details...

My name is David Stevenson and I'm a new arrival in the Tampa Bay area, having moved to St. Petersburg at the end of the summer. For the past two and a half years, I was Editor and Associate Publisher of CoDe Magazine, but now I am back in the saddle again as a self-employed software developer, using Visual FoxPro, SQL Server and .NET.

I had been thinking of inviting all the Fox people I could find around here to some kind of gathering, to allow us to chat and get acquainted. Then, I heard from my good friend Randy Pearson, who is in Clearwater this week for several days on business and we talked about getting together while he's here to chat. We decided to include our mutual friend Bob Archer in the invitation, then decided to expand the circle to everyone we could find!

One thing led to another and now you are being invited to join us for an informal gathering at Bob's place of business in Tampa this Thursday evening, Feb. 12, at 7pm. This will be a great opportunity to enjoy meeting others, comparing notes, exchanging ideas, and learning something technical at the same time.

We will start with light snacks and some mingling time, then will kick the meeting off and hear Randy's presentation about Coding For Reuse, specifically looking at VFP classes related to web development. Then we'll have a brief discussion of the FoxPro market, followed by a general discussion led by Randy about the trade-offs involved in designing business objects. We should be done by about 9pm.

DIRECTIONS TO THE FOXPRO GET-ACQUAINTED GATHERING IN TAMPA ON THURS., FEB. 12:

The Thursday FoxPro gathering will be at GEAC, 3707 W. Cherry St, right off of Dale Mabry, just south of Columbus, which is just south of the stadium. The building is right behind the 2001 Odyssey club, which has a flying saucer on top of it. (Do not go into the flying saucer building, or you will miss our meeting.)

If you come via 275 take the Dale Mabry exit heading north (It will probably say 'to Tampa Stadium'). Going north on Dale Mabry, W Cherry St will be on your right. Once you get on Cherry St, GEAC is the first big yellow building on the left, with a big sign right out front. There is a small parking lot on each end of the building, and there is more parking across the street.

Enter the building through the front, main entrance. We will keep an eye on the monitor and buzz people in. Just come up the stairs and straight in. The main training room is right behind the receptionist's desk.

If you get lost, call Bob Archer's cell phone at 813-293-8085 or David Stevenson's cell phone at 678-575-7290.

I hope to see you Thursday night at 7! Please forward this message to all the FoxPro developers you know in the Tampa Bay area.

Thanks,
David Stevenson
