>One interesting theory I have read, and it's a mistake I also made, is that the Bush administration thought that if Saddam didn't have any WMDs, he would have cooperated. Hence, by not cooperating fully, he must be hiding something.

>While this seems perfectly logical to me, someone pointed out that may not have been how Saddam's mind worked. Perhaps he wanted his enemies, both in Iraq and outside Iraq, to think he had WMDs even though he did not. By holding off the U.S. just enough, while still making his enemies think he had WMDs, he had a better chance of retaining power.

I agree!

As is true with so many things in life we may never know the truth and can only speculate. Using logic does not seem to work too well, as well as many of the facts we are aware of do not jell.

Could it be that Saddam actually thought Iraq had an arsenal of WMD’s? What if sometime after the Gulf War a group of people within Iraq disassembled and dismantled the WMD’s?

At any rate the paper work indicating what happened to the WMD’s, etc. is a question, as it seems that much of it is missing. Convenient or sloppy?

It is hard for even one person to keep a secret. Add additional persons and there is a much greater chance that someone will talk to the wrong people. In this case, if a group of people did remove and destroy the WMD’s in Iraq, it is hard to imagine that no one reported this to Saddam.

After all, Saddam was known to have killed a family member at the family dinner table. Pass the dates please! Anyone for Champagne? Let’s get together tomorrow night for dinner – or else!

>>I have to agree that Saddam should have complied which seems to me he had more than one loose screw!
>>
>>I have pondered that question and think it might be that he was such an egomaniac he did not believe Iraq would be attacked or that he would loose power. I do not believe he could accept loosing his position in Iraq.
>>
>>This man and his family were far from normal. Hitler had more guts – he killed himself just as the Russians were approaching his bunker. Saddam hid in a hole in the ground like the rat he is.
