>I am looking for an OCR product which works with Visual foxpro application to convert tif files to text files.
You'll find a couple of solutions but possibly no "silver bullet". Here's my list of products that i made after an intensive search for the definitive ocx-based ocr killer app... i never found it.
By order of ocr quality (it matters!):
**** scansoft omnipage (THE market leader)
**** abbyy finereader (the best api!)
*** irissoft readiris (a midlevel player... a bit behind but still very usable)
** leadtools (laggind behind the top 3 but workable, see below)
** pegasus (idem)
* simpleocr (quality is not really acceptable)
I'd reserve the leadtools and pegasus for applications that do not request "accross the page" ocr processing. That is applications where the ocr is limited to cleary defined and restricted "zones" of the document.
Only the first 3 packages will offer you the full game... but at a cost. Be prepared to pay for the sdk as well as for the client stuff. The installshield to deal withe ocr isn't for the faints of heart...
As far as we are concerned, we've decided to leave the ocr process outside our client app and propose to our customers to install a server-copy of the scansoft omnipage product. It offers nice "hot directory" services that can be shared on a network.
I'd be glad to hear about successful vfp integration of any of the products mentioned above.
