You can speed this up a lot if you run the report to a window you've activated NOSHOW instead of to a file with NOCONSOLE.

As long as the window exists it can be very small, that doesn't matter, you should get the correct _PAGENO. And it runs very fast, whereas creating that file on disk takes a bit of time.
